Our Dunkin’ Surprise

May 27, 2019

One of my kids recently discovered the Frozen Coffee Dunkin' Donuts.  Sounds harmless enough, right?  Since she loved it so much and wanted to make it a daily treat, she decided to look up the ingredients so she could make it at home (much cheaper that way).  What she found was shocking.

A medium Dunkin' Frozen Coffee contains 94 grams of sugar -- which is the equivalent of about 2.5 CANS OF COKE.  And the large contains 125 (the equivalent of 4 cans).  And that's the original flavor -- they also have mix-ins like Banana Split  and Butter Pecan Swirl that up the sugar content to as high as 194 grams for a large.  OMG.

We had no idea that ANY beverage could contain that much sugar, and we're pretty into health and nutrition in this house.  And while I don't mean to rain on everyone's Dunkin' parade, I do think that a regular iced coffee -- even with sugar added -- is a delightful-enough treat.  As for my daughter, she opted (on her own, I swear) to make a batch of her own frozen coffee at home in the Vitamix using coffee, ice, cream and a little sugar.  How bad can that be?  We also found this recipe.
